Citric Acid

Citric Acid is most commonly used as a preservative & flavoring agent in the food processing industry with E number E330. It is known to appear as white crystalline solid with odorless nature. This acid has chemical formula C6H8O7 with a molecular weight of 192.123 g/mol in anhydrous form. It also finds application in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and dietary supplements for various purposes. This acid possesses the excellent chelating property and is known to work by binding to metals & making them soluble. This property is exploited in the removal of limescale buildup from industrial boilers and for dissolving rust from steel. Citric Acid has to melt & boiling points of 156 & 310 degrees Celsius respectively with water-soluble nature.
